One of the hardest decisions we had to make was to choose our wedding photographers because the idea of having good, no breathtaking photos of our wedding day was very essential to us. It's a great way to remember what transpired during the wedding day when everything on that important day passes by in a blur.
There are a lot of talented ones out there. A LOT. Choosing the one was pure agony. I lost sleep over it, I kid you not. :) I obsessed! And then changed minds over & over again. That's why we had more than one. In the end, we had to decide based on the photography style we wanted.
Photographers:
I. PAT DY
We wanted clean, classic, timeless, photojournalistic shots. After studying the work of the photographers we wanted, we decided that Pat's style is the best one for us. It also helped that out of all the coffee-table albums we looked at, his was the nicest. I liked how he layouts the photos because it's very tasteful and they don't look cluttered like all the others I've seen. [Among all the rest, I also liked Karl & Mimi's album].
We met Pat twice, and we signed the contract on the second meeting. Lucky for us, he was still available when we finally decided on him because he's pretty in demand. He is a very nice person and is easy to talk to. It was a great experience working with him, and I love that he's good at taking glamour shots. Being a fashion photographer, he knows how to find the right angles that would flatter his subject the most. I liked that because vain as I am, I don't know my angles (believe it or not!).
His on-the-day slideshow, aside from Jason M.'s onsite vid was one of the highlights of the reception. It really amazed our guests and a lot of people came up to us to compliment it. Actually, it amazed both me and Art as well because we had no idea what to expect and voila there it was and it was just beautiful. :)
Here is the slideshow shown at the reception by the wedding photographer extraordinaire Pat Dy:
We are still awaiting our final album, because I didn't know until yesterday that I had to pick out the pictures for our album. I thought they would do that for us. Good thing I thought about following up with Cyn (his secretary). I guess I was so caught up with the coming of the baby, I didn't even know that we could have gotten it around September or October if only I picked the pictures as soon as we got the album. Tskk for me!
Btw, I lurrve Pat and I'm still dreaming of having a boudoir one day when I'm physically and mentally ready (haha!) and when that day comes, I'm only do it with him because of his tasteful and glamourous photography style.
II. MANGO RED
We booked Mango Red when they still had their introductory rates, meaning, they were still fairly new at the biz at that time. We booked even before Pat, and even without meeting them! I discovered them on Jason M.'s blog, and instantly liked them! I knew from the beginning how much potential they had, and they have since grown even more creative with every new set they put out on their blog.
They are just unlike any other. I love their work! their style is unique, edgy, and out-of the-box. I just knew that they won't deliver the conventional wedding day photos and I loved that thought. Until this day, I am still in awe of their creative geniuses and I still want another "pictorial" with them, just for the heck of it. I guess I just want to be under their lenses once again, [just finding the right timing and waiting to get back in shape] ;). Working with them was a good experience, they're very quiet while working {as if in deep thought]. They just let you be and then shoot away. They're fun to be with, as Randall's laugh is very contagious and Ryan is very interesting to talk to.
I'm absolutely a BIG fan of the Dagooc brothers. I still stalk their blog up to this very day. As for our final albums, according to them it should take seven months from the time of the wedding day. I followed up yesterday and talked to Randall, it turns out that I should be waiting for the loose prints "any time soon", and as soon as I receive the email of the choices they will give me for the album treatment and send back what I choose, it will take three more months for the final album to come out. That's quite a long wait, let's see we might get the album about more than a year after the wedding. But what can I say? Mango Red is just so worth it.
Here are a few of my favorite Mango Red pictures from our wedding.
And our unconventional postnup, which we didn't have lots of time to do and places to go to because Art & I had to attend to our relatives who came home for our wedding.
III. LITO SY
For our prenup I would have wanted Pat or the Dagooc brothers to do it for us so of course we can "establish rapport" for the day. If we had the budget for it, we probably did have one with both as well. But since we didn't, we wanted to try out other photographers' style.
We picked Lito Sy because first we were curious about working with him since we booked Pat for our wedding day, he is afterall "the Lito Sy", multi-awarded wedding photographer. More importantly, we chose him because we got a pretty good deal with the indoor prenup, outdoor/out-of-town prenup, prenup video and guestbook package. In the course of trying to maximize our wedding budget, we just got to make choices where we get our moneys worth.
We had our prenup pictorial done at his studio and at the Subic Bay Yacht Club. It was a pretty loong drive and I think we wasted a lot of time on the road. If we could do it over again, we would do the pictorial somewhere in Manila instead. The location doesn't matter much anyway, as long as you have a good photographer. Our outdoor pictorial lasted only about an hour or so, and that was it, plus it started to pour [just our luck]. The photos came out nice, but I was kind of disappointed because I wanted more shots.
It was quite an experience working with Lito because he is very makwento and entertaining. Art wasn't comfortable with the idea of a pictorial at first but Lito did a great job of making him feel at ease. In the end, we noticed that he seemed to be more into it than me ;). Lito's shots are more lovey-dovey than Pat's and Mango Red's. His style is to "evoke" emotions from his subjects. Even just once wanted to have some of those kinds of pictures too, so here:
IV. JINKY SY
Okay, so we had another prenup. Like I mentioned, I [stress on I] wanted more photos. :) Jinky is Lito's brother, and he gave us a pretty good deal on the follow-up pictorial. We went to Intramuros and because we are a very lucky couple, it started to pour right when we started. So we had to make us of their virtual studio for the rest of the pictures.
Jinky's style is pretty much like Lito's, much to do with the fact that he trained under Lito. But he's a nice person and is trying to establish his own name in the field of wedding photography. For those who want Lito Sy but think his rates are too steep, Jinky's Xsight Photography is worth checking out.

They are all very talented, you should check out their sites to see their work. :)
